What are the reindeer eating this Thanksgiving?

Hello everyone!  Tomorrow is a time to give thanks for family, friends and a bountiful harvest, and boy do we have a lot to be thankful for here at the Northpole.  But have you ever wondered what Santa's reindeer eat?  Well, I will tell you...

They usually eat reindeer moss or lichens.  Lichens are basically made of fungus and green algae that grow together.  They love it!  They also eat leaves of willow and birch trees.  All that nutrition is what keeps them strong and healthy so they can fly with amazing speed.  But on Thanksgiving, they will be enjoying some special treats including eggs, mushrooms and fish!  In fact, I saw Elroy and some of his staff out ice fishing for them this morning.  They are going to have a yummy feast tomorrow too.

A "Happy Thanksgiving" and "Joyful Blessings" to you from all of us here at the Northpole!

Mrs. Claus's Feast

Before Thanksgiving arrives, I like to pay a visit to Mrs. Claus and see what will be set upon the table in just a couple days.  Right now, she and our very talented food staff are preparing recipes and experimenting with various ingredients to present the perfect feast.

Mrs. Claus is such a great cook and her delicious creations in the kitchen are always a treat to us elves.  Soon, we'll be enjoying stuffing and pie, my two favorites!  What kind of food does your family enjoy on Thanksgiving?  Well, tomorrow is a very big day and I need to make my way into town to pick up a stuffed cornucopia for Mrs. Claus.

Magical Falling Snow

As you may know, at the Northpole we have magical snow!  That's right.  We call it magical snow because it only snows at night here.  We think it's very convenient because it allows the maintenance crew plenty of time to clear the walks for the holiday shoppers and plow the snow in front of everyone's shop door.

Tonight the snow is falling for the first time in a while.  You probably think of the Northpole as being really cold all the time, but we enjoy sunny warmer days too even though there's always snow on the ground.  It's really fun around here.  We can go sledding whenever we want and have snowball fights.  We love building snowmen too because they come to life, just like that famous frosty fellow.  And don't worry, because we have super warm clothes to wear, designed just for us little elves.

I hope you like the picture I took while I was out.  The snowflakes were huge!  I plan on taking more pictures soon.

Bake Festival

Today we started our bake festival in town, the event we all wait patiently for throughout the year.  Elves from across the village come together to sell their fresh pastries, homemade candy and jams, and special spices.  It's that time of year when everyone starts thinking about Thanksgiving dinner and their Christmas feast and that means bringing home some of the most wonderful goodies in the world to share with families and friends.  I bought a a spiced apple pie from Elise and I already have my eye on some chocolate filled cookies and delightful truffles.

The bake festival will last for the next three days, so I'll keep you posted.  Now if you'll please excuse me, I have a delicious apple pie to enjoy!

A New Star for the Tree!

The giant Christmas tree in the corner of the dining hall has already been decorated, but there are more trees around the Northpole to decorate too.  You know us Christmas elves, we just can't get enough holiday cheer!  Anyway, today is the day we have set aside for making special ornaments that will hang on the Christmas tree standing tall at the end of Candy Cane Lane.  Elves have drafted the designs and now it's time to bring them to life!

I stopped at the Workshop this morning and saw tables of paint and glue, glitter and bows, strands of garland, all kinds of stuff to make the ornaments shine and sparkle.  I have been informed that our Research and Development team has made a solar-powered star for the top!  I don't know how they do it.  Soon we'll be using this new "Polar Solar Energy" to power the Christmas lights, street lamps, and all kinds of other things!  There's quite the buzz around here about this breakthrough.  More to come...
